Grundtvig and Folk-Enlightenment

N. F. S. Grundtvig, who lived from 1783 to 1872, was a Danish clergyman, a poet, a historian and a politician. The effect history of his thoughts and life is enormous. He was a contemporary of two other famous Danes, Hans Christian Andersen and Søren Kierkegaard, whose fields of influence was mainly literature and philosophy. Grundtvig´s importance cannot be overestimated within the fields of education, culture, religion and most of all nation building and the establishment of a Danish identity. He was the inspiration of those thousands of people in DK, who at the time established folk high schools and the cooperative movement with dairies, assembly halls and political and cultural awareness.

This presentation will consist of biographical and ideological descriptions of Grundtvig´s life.

Aage Augustinus

Aage Augustinus, who was born in 1952, holds an MA in History and Religions. He is a former Folk High School teacher and principal, as well as the former pastor of The People’s Church.
