What’s Up in Denmark?

There are around 600 communities in Denmark. What are they and which kind of communities are on the rise? This is a presentation on developer-led ecovillages that are right now blossoming in Denmark. What does the approach mean for social coherence, governance and ownership? Are developers threatening the self-grown ecovillage concepts? Is it ‘community greenwash’?

A line of results from four recent research projects in Denmark will be presented and discussed, including how Danish ecovillages consume around 27-60% less CO2 than the average Danish households (COMPASS), a mapping of communities in Denmark and how a new research project (SAMSKAB) seeks to bring evidence on how to establish new communities and strengthen community-led transition, social and environmental impact. Furthermore, a new central advisory unit has been started up, to assist new communities to grow. This presentation will give an overview of the current research field of community living in Denmark.
