Response and Adaptation to Covid-19 Pandemic in Brazilian Ecovillages (Copy)

Almost two years after Covid-19 pandemic was declared by the World Health Organization, Brazil has officially registered over six hundred thousand deaths due to Sars-CoV-2. This work aims to know how Brazilian ecovillages and intentional sustainable communities alike responded to the sanitary emergency and how they have since dealt with the risks and effects caused by the multiple crises deepened by the pandemics. Therefore, we've been conducting a nationwide online survey to collect data from the CASA Brasil network since early September 2021. The questionnaire contains 10 multiple-questions, and 8 open-questions to address issues such as the biggest challenges faced; secure and replicable solutions developed by the communities; mistakes or good examples that can lead to a more resilient and sustainable future in a country deeply affected by SARS-CoV-2. Our main research question is: To what extent does this disruptive situation alter or strengthen the organizational structure and sociocultural, economic and ecosystem processes in intentional communities that identify themselves as ecovillages in Brazil? We aim for information that can be shared among ecovillages and also disseminated to society more broadly. This research is inspired by pioneering work carried out independently by the Foundation for Intentional Community (FIC) "Intentional Communities and Covid", published in June 2021. The effort to replicate this methodology is justified by the possibility of establishing both localized (between communities) and broader (between regions and countries) comparisons in the future. It is expected that the results bring an overview of the present situation of ecovillages in a large portion of the South American continent and that they also allow for comparative analysis to other national networks linked to CASA Latina, and the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN).
